Since February 2021, Senegal has recorded more than 60 protesters killed, hundreds injured, and more than 1,500 political prisoners - including journalists, municipal elected officials, political leaders, political activists PASTEF, Youtube, Tikk Tokk, Facebook and Twitter “influencers” - the likes of which the country has never known since its access to independence in 1960. Until now, no investigation has been carried out to find the perpetrators of these murders and determine the circumstances of the deaths.
The charges relate mainly to crimes such as Attacks against state security, Call to insurrection, Criminal association, Criminal association in connection with a terrorist enterprise, Plot against the authority of the State, … Which allows the prosecution to deprive them of their liberty for an indefinite period before any possible judgment.
In a TV show, the former Minister of National Education Mamadou Ndoye describes the situation as follows:
“No regime has arrested so many people at once, and in such an arbitrary manner, since independence… This is the first time this has happened to our country.”
The writer Felwine Sarr in an article published on SenePlus warns:
“The ruse of oppression is to lead us into denial of its reality; because there should be no mistake, it is not only a political group and its members that are targeted, but the idea that we collectively have of freedom, dignity and justice as well as our ideal of a righteous community who are under assault.”
The goal of this website is to report on the very exceptional nature of the political climate in Senegal under the reign of Macky Sall. We will identify the victims, the prisoners and the injured, put images on their names, and give details of the conditions of their arrest.
